The death of a man whose body was found in Sheffield city centre is being treated as unexplained, police have said.

Emergency services were called at about 05:15 BST on Tuesday to reports of a body being found near Sheffield Cathedral in Church Street.

South Yorkshire Police said inquiries were under way to establish the circumstances of the man's death.

Formal identification was yet to take place and officers would remain at the scene in Church Street throughout the day, the force added.
