Giant lobster sculpture dedicated to harbour

A sculpture of a lobster has been unveiled on the seafront at Bridlington.

The artwork, at Pembroke Gardens opposite Bridlington Spa, as been installed in recognition of the town's status as one of the biggest exporters of lobsters in Europe.

Created by local sculptor Emma Stothard, the Bridlington Lobster is three metres long and made of woven steel.

Lesley Jackson, who donated the sculpture, said she was "delighted" to reveal it on Saturday morning.

"I first saw this sculpture in Emma Stothard's studio in Whitby. I absolutely love it, I said then it should be displayed in the lobster capital of Europe, and here it is," Ms Jackson said.

The artist was born in Hull and grew up in Kilnsea. She is known for her sculptures made of willow and wire.

Ms Jackson, whose business Hudson Contract sponsored the lobster's arrival, also had support from Bridlington Ambassadors, Bridlington in Bloom, Brightening Up Bridlington, Bridlington Town Council and East Riding Council.

The Bridlington Ambassadors said the sculpture was dedicated to the harbour community.
