A fish and chip shop will be closed for the "foreseeable future" following a fire earlier, its owners have said.

Firefighters were called to The Funky Fish in Welton Road, Brough, East Yorkshire, just before 10:00 GMT on Friday.

On its Facebook page, the owners said no one was hurt and thanked the fire brigade for preventing the blaze spreading to neighbouring businesses, which includes a post office next door.

Humberside Fire and Rescue confirmed the fire involved fryers and the ventilation system and had left the shop smoke damaged.

The owners said they were "absolutely gutted", adding the staff had been left in shock.

They thanked customers who had sent their best wishes.
