A suspected World War Two bomb has been safely detonated after it was found in a North Yorkshire village.

North Yorkshire Police and an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team were called to an outbuilding at an address in Staxton shortly after 08:30 BST on Thursday.

After its safe removal, a controlled explosion of the device took place at a second location at approximately 12:30, the force said.

A precautionary cordon put in place during the extraction has been removed, police said, with the force thanking the public for their patience during the incident.
