Duns Lane in Leicester will be partially closed so work can take place to create new cycle lanes

Work is due to begin on a second phase of work to create new cycle lanes along a street in Leicester city centre.

Duns Lane will be restricted to one-way traffic between Braunstone Gate and St Augustine Road from 7 September.

A similar closure was in place during the first phase of work on the opposite side of the road earlier this year, as part of the £600,000 improvement scheme.

Leicester City Council said the latest work was expected to take about three months to complete.

The three-month timeline also includes a planned break in the roadworks of up to five weeks, while heavy construction work is carried out on an adjacent office development, the authority added.

Signposted diversions will be place.

The council said it also had plans to resurface Duns Lane at a later date.

Geoff Whittle, assistant city mayor for environment and transport, said: "This important scheme will help provide a much-improved route for people on foot, on bikes or using wheelchairs or other mobility aids, and extend the network of people-friendly routes in and around Braunstone Gate and De Montfort University."
