A police force said it would deploy extra resources to hot spots during Euro 2024.

Norfolk Police said it was expecting to see a range of incidents including minor disorder and assaults and drink-driving, while the football competition runs from Friday 14 June to Sunday 14 July.

Officers will look at where the "biggest pockets of people" will be, and deploy additional resources accordingly.

Ch Insp Rob Wicks said he was confident any issues would be dealt with "promptly and effectively".

He said: "Most people enter the competition with a really positive atmosphere, they enjoy themselves and they look after each other. Occasionally we end up with incidents we need to deal with but fortunately they are few and far between."

'Best and worst of people'

Ch Insp Rob Wicks said: "Football tends to bring out the best and worst of people... we hope England do really well in this competition and that they are there all the way through to the final and we may eventually win something that most of us in our lifetime have not had the opportunity or privilege to see."

Efforts will also focus on tackling drink-driving as part of a Norfolk Police campaign during the football competition and urge anyone who will be driving after the event to stop drinking early, or to not drink at all.
