Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly pedestrian died.

Wiltshire Police said they received reports the woman in her 80s was struck by multiple vehicles on Caen Hill, near Mayenne Place, in Devizes, shortly before 18:15 GMT on Friday.

Officers said one vehicle stopped at the scene, no arrests have yet been made and the road was temporarily closed to allow officers to investigate further.

"This is a tragic incident in which an elderly woman has lost her life, and our thoughts are with her family," said Sgt James Barrett, from the Roads Policing Unit.

"We are urgently working to establish the full circumstances of the collision," he said.

"While one vehicle stopped at the scene, it's believed that other unknown vehicles may have been involved and we are really keen to speak with any drivers who were passing Caen Hill at that time, and thought they may have struck an object in the road."

Police said the woman was declared dead at the scene and her next of kin have been informed.

Officers are also urging anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam or other footage to come forward.
