The proposed scheme is set to make walking and cycling safer on Gregory Boulevard

Funding has been earmarked for a scheme to improve walking and cycling routes along a busy road in Nottingham.

A total of £1.3m from the East Midlands Combined County Authority could be spent by the city council on work along Gregory Boulevard between the A60 Mansfield Road and Noel Street.

The proposed scheme will form part of a wider network and connect existing facilities, including plans to install new crossings and resurface paths.

The city council will discuss whether to formally accept the funding at a meeting on Tuesday.

The proposed scheme, which would see the road resurfaced at the same time to reduce disruption, would be alongside a £2.6m upgrade of the Forest Sports Zone complex, the authority said.

A public consultation on the upgrade project will take place before final designs are drawn up.

East Midlands mayor Claire Ward said the work would "make a real difference to people's lives".

Councillor Linda Woodings said the scheme would connect "schools, parks and communities" and support "a healthier greener Nottingham".

The authority has already received an additional £459,814 to investigate future potential schemes to improve walking and cycling networks in Nottingham.
