A man has been arrested after an ambulance was tailgated and an emergency worker driven at.

Nottinghamshire Police said an ambulance was followed "at speed" while it was on a blue-light run on the A617 towards Newark, Nottinghamshire, on 12 June.

The force said the unwanted convoy prompted the crew to pull over and an ambulance technician, who challenged the motorist, was then driven at.

Officers arrested a 19-year-old man on Wednesday on suspicion of dangerous driving, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and failing to stop following a road traffic collision.

Police said a car had "mirrored the ambulance's speed" and tailgated the emergency vehicle as it overtook other vehicles.

The emergency worker challenged the driver at about 21:20 BST in Hockerton, Nottinghamshire, but they had to "cling on to the car's bonnet" as it carried on travelling.

The driver was reported to have continued driving forward until the ambulance technician was "barged" out of the way, and then left the scene, leaving the worker with "minor injuries", police said.

PC Jamie Hinks said: “We’re pleased to say we’ve now arrested a suspect in connection with this incident, although our inquiries are still ongoing, so we’d ask anyone with any further information to contact us."
