Plans to build 105 homes on farmland on the edge of Ravenstone are set to be given the green light.

Gladman Developments wants to construct the properties on land off Wash Lane to the north of the village.

Planning officers at North West Leicestershire District Council have recommended councillors approve the scheme when they discuss it on Wednesday.

The recommendation comes despite objections from Ravenstone with Snibston Parish Council and 17 other residents.

Concerns lodged with the district council include the potential loss of green space and harm to wildlife as well as the impact of extra traffic, generated by the new homes, on nearby roads.

The developer said the site was in a sustainable location and that there was a need for new housing in the area.

District council planning officers said the developer would be asked to pay sums to contribute to local facilities, including £1.14m for education provision and £600,000 to fund transport improvements.

It will also ask the company to fund tree planting in the area.
