Swimming pool reopens after pipework replaced
- Published
A swimming pool is reopening to the public following an upgrade which has taken more than a year.
Durham County Council will open the pool at Peterlee Leisure Centre on Monday 29 April.
It closed in January 2023 for improvements to the plant room, which houses the equipment used to run the pool.
But it was then discovered the pool's pipework needed replacing, which pushed the reopening back nine months from summer 2023.
Councillor James Rowlandson from Durham County Council said the work ensured the pool was "up to date and more energy efficient".
“Reopening the pool also marks the completion of our transformation programme at the centre, which we hope will help more people stay active, and live long and independent lives," he said.
As part of the next stage of that programme, which aims to upgrade facilities at the county's leisure centres, the swimming pool at The Louisa Centre in Stanley, County Durham will temporarily close from Monday 29 April.
