Man dies after County Monaghan crash

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward

A man in his 20s has died following a two vehicle crash at Moneygorbet, Castleblayney, in County Monaghan.

The incident involving a car and a van occurred at about 06:15 local time on Thursday, gardaí (Irish police) said.

The driver of the car died at the scene.

The passenger, a man in his 20s, has been removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, with injuries which are not life-threatening.

The male driver of the van, who is in his 50s, was removed from the scene to the same hospital with injuries which are not life-threatening.

Gardaí said the road remained closed at this time and a technical examination of the scene by forensic collision investigators is due to take place.

Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.
