The driver of a van involved in a collision with a truck on a major road in North Yorkshire has died, police have confirmed.

The white Ford Transit Connect van, driven by 43-year-old Scott Proudlock, from Malton, was in collision with a stationary Volvo HGV parked in a layby at the side of the eastbound carriageway of the A64 near York, officers said.

The incident took place between the A1036 and the A19 Fulford Interchange junctions at about 02:50 BST, according to a North Yorkshire Police spokesperson.

The driver of the HGV was uninjured and was assisting officers with their investigation, they added.

Following the crash, the A64 was initially closed in both directions, but the westbound carriageway re-opened at about 07:15 BST.

The eastbound carriageway remained closed to allow for collision investigation work and recovery to take place and reopened at about 11:15 BST, police said.

Anyone who may have seen the van prior to the crash, or anyone with relevant dashcam footage, was asked to get in touch with North Yorkshire Police.
