A hospital is hosting a free event for people following a cancer diagnosis.

The Queen's Centre for Oncology and Haematology at Castle Hill Hospital, near Cottingham, will hold the event on 12 November.

It will include benefits advice, make-up tips and how a horse can help following a diagnosis.

Anyone being treated for cancer or who has received a diagnosis in the past can meet and chat with experts on the day.

Claire Walker, Macmillan Information Health and Wellbeing manager, said cancer can have a "big impact on families and loved ones" as well as the person diagnosed.

"Whether it’s questions about how you’ll pay the household bills, how to manage your physical appearance or concerns over how your diagnosis may be affecting your children, or if you’re a cancer survivor looking to meet and share experiences with others, we’ll have someone on hand to help," she said.

Some of the experts on hand to give advice on the day will be carers advice, Look Good Feel Better for the physical effects of cancer treatment, the Oral Health Team and Alzheimer's Society Support.

A confidential space will also be available for a chat if required.

The event is free and people wanting to attend can call in between 10:00 and 15:00 GMT.
