Man, 44, appears in court over remains find

A man has appeared in court charged with murder after human remains were discovered in a storage unit.

Bedfordshire Police said Annette Smith, 74, from West Wing, Fairfield Hall, near Stotfold, was last seen in November.

Scott Paterson, 44, of Hardy Way, Fairfield Park, appeared before magistrates in Luton on Thursday.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Luton Crown Court on 7 May.

Formal identification had not taken place on the remains, found in a storage unit in Letchworth, Hertfordshire.

However, police said Ms Smith's next of kin have been informed.
