Firefighters have been tackling a large blaze at an electricity substation in Grimsby.

According to witnesses, several crews were called to the fire on Oxford Street at around 19:30 GMT.

At the height of the incident, Northern Powergrid reported more than 1,200 customers were without power.

The fire was reportedly under control, but a cordon was put in place, with people asked to remain indoors.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said crews were still dealing with the fire and have yet to release further details, but witnesses reported extensive damage to the building.

Duncan Young, a photographer who attended the scene, said a large section of the roof had collapsed.

He said several fire crews were involved in tackling the blaze and they had worked very quickly to get it under control.

A spokesperson for Northern Powergrid said engineers had identified the cause of the outage and were working to restore power.

By 21:45, about 400 homes had been reconnected, but 800 were still without electricity. The company said it hoped to restore power by 23:30.
