People in a West Yorkshire town have been asked to help shape multimillion-pound plans for a new public space.

The proposed transformation of Bramsche Square in Todmorden forms part of a £3.5m Public Places in the Heart of Todmorden project.

Calderdale Council said it also wanted to hear people's views on a separate £3.2m plan to make it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to get around the town.

An event was due to take place on Saturday at which residents would be able to meet the scheme's designers, ask questions and have their say.

Both projects are part of the Todmorden Town Deal, external, a £17.5m regeneration programme funded by the government.

According to the the plans, Bramsche Square would become a"welcoming, attractive and flexible public space" to help increase trade in the town.

The space would be used to host events, festivals and specialist markets.

Meanwhile, the Active Todmorden scheme would see better links created for pedestrians between the railway station and the town centre, as well as more cycle routes and parking facilities for bikes.

Construction work is expected to start in spring 2025 and take about a year to complete.

'Visit and enjoy'

Councillor Sarah Courtney, Calderdale Council’s cabinet member for towns, tourism and voluntary sector, said: "Todmorden has many wonderful businesses and places to spend time, including cultural, heritage and natural features.

"The town deal investment, in partnership with the Todmorden Town Deal Board and the local community, will help more people to visit and enjoy these attractions."

The designs will be on display at Todmorden Information Centre from Monday until 23 March.
