Demolition to begin on Riverside shopping centre

The regeneration scheme is funded by almost £19m Shropshire Council secured from the government

Demolition is to begin on a shopping centre and a former medical practice.
The work is part of the Smithfield Riverside scheme, a scheme intended to redevelop the area in Shrewsbury.
After the demolition, work will begin to create a park which will feature play equipment and an events and performance area.
The scheme is financed by almost £19m of government funding, which Shropshire Council secured in 2023.

The area will be turned into a park, which the authority says will improve biodiversity and flood resilience in the town centre
Shropshire Council said it hoped to minimise disruption in the town centre as much as possible during the demolition process.
