A "vital" bus route is being restored with lower fares for young people.

The service between Stamford and Peterborough includes stops in Wittering, Wansford, Ailsworth, Castor and Longthorpe.

The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority said villagers had described "the negative impact of isolation" due to a lack of transport options, with some paying £25 in taxis fares to get to medical appointments.

Stagecoach has been appointed to run the route, which will be restored on Monday.

Under 25s in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough can apply for a special bus pass offering fares from £1.

The Combined Authority said 30 new and improved transport routes would be introduced this year.
