Animal shelter given £115k to replace leaking roofs

The grant will benefit dogs like Daisy who arrived at the shelter as a stray

Work has started on replacing the roofs at an animal shelter after it was given a £115,320 grant.
Cheltenham Animal Shelter said it would not have been able raise the funds for the work without the support from the charity Pets Foundation.
The roofs on three dog kennel blocks needed to be replaced after deteriorating with age and leaking. Head of fundraising at the shelter Alison Jarvis said the grant would make a "phenomenal" difference.
"We can just get on with the job thanks to the grant from Pets Foundation, it's great," she added.

The work is expected to be finished within the next two months
"Raising that sort of money takes a lot of time and energy and can take away from the ongoing day to day of running of the shelter," Ms Jarvis said.
She explained the refit would improve insulation and soundproofing to provide a more comfortable environment for the dogs, especially those with conditions such as arthritis.
Work is already under way and is expected to be completed within the next two months.
"We'll aim to do it as quickly as we can to minimise the disruption to the animals," said Ms Jarvis.
"It will also help reduce the sound of barking in there, which can be quite distressing for other dogs."
