A boat and trailer dumped on a pavement have been taken on their potential final voyage.

The vessel was moored on Lightwood Road in Dresden, Stoke-on-Trent, on Monday and was posing a danger, the city council said.

A specialist removal company was required to remove it. Earlier in the week the council said it would be taken to a depot and crushed if its captain could not be identified.

On Friday, a flatbed truck was pictured lifting the boat in preparation for its sail away.

"You expect to see cars dumped sometimes, but never a boat, not on the main road," one resident told the BBC earlier in the week.

Another said he had seen the boat being "dragged" by a big van, and wondered whether the trailer's wheel had failed, so the driver had looked for somewhere to leave it.

Anyone with information should contact the council's environmental crime team.
