About 20,000 spectators are expected to descend on Plymouth for bonfire night, Plymouth City Council has said.

The free event will be held on the Hoe on 5 November, with a fireworks display being launched from Citadel wall at 19:30 GMT and lasting 15 minutes.

A large bonfire will feature along with fairground rides and catering stalls.

Councillor Sally Haydon, Cabinet Member for Events, said: "Bonfire Night is one of the most important events in our calendars every year in Plymouth."

She added: "Year after year we have an impressive bonfire and fireworks display which is not to be missed.

"The event is free to attend with lots of fun things to do on the evening for families."

Plymouth Waterfront Partnership has sponsored the 2024 event.

Jon Walton CEO Plymouth Waterfront Partnership said: "We are delighted to be able to support this incredibly popular, and free to attend annual event, that truly showcases our spectacular Hoe and waterfront."

A council spokesperson has warned that parking in the event area would be "very limited" and people were advised to use city centre car parks.

Disabled parking would be available on the Hoe for those displaying a blue badge.
