Manx residents have been warned they face a £100 fine if they fail to submit their personal income tax returns before the deadline at the start of next month.

People have until 6 October to hand in their completed forms at the government's offices in Douglas or submit their return online.

If a tax return is still outstanding by 6 April next year, a further £200 fine will be imposed.

The Treasury said even if the penalties were paid, the return must still be submitted, or those responsible could face prosecution.

A government spokesman said about two thirds of those required to fill in annual tax returns now did so online rather than using paper forms.

Staff at the income tax office would offer support to anyone who wanted to submit their return online for the first time or are having trouble with the process, he said.

The online allowed users to receive instant confirmation of submission, review assessments and balance details, make secure online payments and have income tax refunds paid directly into a bank account, he added.
