Police are searching for the driver of a car after a girl was taken to hospital following a hit-and-run close to her school.

Officers were called to Folly Road, near Wymondham High School, at 15:30 BST on Monday following reports that a car had failed to stop after crashing into two pedestrians and a bus stop.

A girl suffered minor injuries and was taken to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and a second child was treated for shock but unhurt, Norfolk Police said.

The car believed to have been involved was discovered nearby by police, but the driver was not at the scene. Inquiries were now under way to find them, the force added.

The East of England Ambulance Service said it sent an ambulance and two paramedic cars to the scene.

"Two patients were assessed at the scene and one girl was transported to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital for further assessment and care," it said in a statement.

An email, seen by the BBC, sent to parents by Wymondham High School on Monday, said initially that two students were taken to hospital with "non-life threatening injuries".

In the message, head teacher Chris Smith said pupils who witnessed the crash had given statements to the police, and the "school will be supporting any students affected by this incident".
