Teenage cyclist dies following car crash

A teenage boy has died after he was involved in a car crash while riding his bike.

Jayden McGuinness was seriously injured in the crash with a VW Golf on Friday at about 21:00 BST on Walker Road, Byker.

The 16-year-old, from Walker, died in hospital on Sunday, Northumbria Police said.

A 28-year-old man has been charged with death by dangerous driving.

The force has launched an appeal for witnesses and dash cam footage.

Sgt Russell Surrey described the crash as "tragic".

"A man has now been charged in relation to the incident and we would ask that members of the public refrain from speculation – either online or in the community – and respect the legal process," he said.
