Free parking will be made available for shoppers in Leamington Spa in the run-up to Christmas while work to knock down a multi-storey car park continues.

Drivers will be able to use more than 80 bays at Riverside House for free from 1 to 28 December, excluding Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

It comes amid the ongoing work to demolish the Covent Garden multi-storey, which has also closed the adjacent surface car park.

Councillor Will Roberts, of Warwick District Council, said December was a "critical time" for the town's shops, services and hospitality venues.

"We want to do everything we can to boost footfall and the local economy in the run-up to the festive season," he added.

The work on the Covent Garden multi-storey car park, which closed in 2023, will see the height of the building reduced and the lower two levels brought back into use for long-term parking.

Roberts confirmed the adjacent surface car park would not reopen before the end of the year and thanked people for their patience.
