People looking for free support and guidance about money, health and safety matters are invited to an open day in Wolverhampton.

Help at the Hub at St Michael's Parish Centre in Tettenhall has been organised by the city council's Public Protection Scams Team, which will also give out free scam awareness and prevention packs.

Residents can speak to a range of organisations at the event on Monday 6 October, including Alzheimer's Society, not-for-profit financial cooperative Wolverhampton City Credit Union, Barclays, West Midlands Police and Severn Trent.

The council asked people not to "struggle alone" and said they were welcome to pop in as appointments were not needed.

Bhupinder Gakhal, cabinet member for resident services, said the authority was heading out into the community to offer assistance to residents "who may have concerns and questions".

He added: "Our Help at the Hub event in Tettenhall will see a wide range of organisations offer help and support for anyone who may be wondering where to turn.

"We know that these past few years have been difficult for many residents and worries can build up."

People can speak with the Aquarius charity that supports those affected by alcohol, drugs and gambling and SUIT, which helps individuals struggling with or in recovery from drugs and alcohol issues.

Birmingham Dogs Home (Wolverhampton Centre), adult learning disability charity and social care provider Camphill Village Trust and the council's Environmental Crime team and neighbourhood safety co-ordinator will be among those at the event.

Attendees are to include Wolverhampton College and Wolverhampton Homes, which manages council homes, and visitors can ask about the special educational needs and disabilities offer.

Residents were advised to please be prepared to wait, if the event is busy at the venue in the Hopkins Room on Upper Street, near Tettenhall Library.
