Thousands of runners have signed up to take part in the annual race on Sunday

A record number of runners are expected to take part in this year's Robin Hood Half Marathon in Nottingham.

Organisers said more than 14,000 participants had signed up for the half and mini marathons on Sunday, 3,000 more runners than in 2024.

The annual race around the city streets will start at Victoria Embankment from 09:30 BST.

A number of road closures and other traffic restrictions will be in place in Nottingham during the day.

The Robin Hood Half Marathon , externalbegan in Nottingham in 1981 and has been held in the city every year since then, apart from in 2020, when it was cancelled due to the Covid pandemic.

A record number of runners are expected for the 44th event on Sunday.

The half marathon is 13.1 miles (21.1 km) while the mini marathon, which is designed for all ages and abilities, is 1.5 miles (2.5 km).

Both races start and finish at Victoria Embankment next to the River Trent.

For runners taking on the half marathon, the single lap course takes runners on a tour of some of the city's famous landmarks including Nottingham Castle, The Park Estate and Wollaton Park.

Road closures

People taking part are being advised to allow extra time to get to the Race Village at Victoria Embankment, as delays and congestion are expected on Sunday morning.

The half marathon starts at 09:30 BST and the mini marathon starts at 10:00 BST, but participants are advised to arrive no later than 08:30 BST.

Motorists are also being warned to expect delays in and around Nottingham city centre on Sunday.

Road closures, parking restrictions and lane closures will start from 06:00 BST on Sunday and go on until 16:20 BST. A full list of road closures can be found here, external.
