A man who was arrested on suspicion of arson following a house fire has been released.

Police and fire crews were called to the blaze on Percy Street in Middlesbrough on Friday night.

Cleveland Police said a 52-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and was taken into custody.

The force later confirmed he had been released with no further action and was detained in hospital under the Mental Health Act.

A police spokesperson previously said nobody had been in the property at the time of the fire.

Cleveland Fire Brigade has been approached for a comment.
