Man, 19, admits rioting after e-bike crash deaths

A 19-year-old has become the latest to admit to rioting following the deaths of two teenagers in an e-bike crash.

Kyrees Sullivan, 16, and his best friend Harvey Evans, 15, died in the crash in Ely, Cardiff, on 22 May 2023.

The disorder which followed continued until the early hours, leaving 31 police officers injured, property damaged and cars torched.

Harvey James, 19, from Fairwater pleaded guilty at Cardiff Crown Court on Thursday and was released on bail, with a sentencing hearing provisionally set for 22 December.

Nine others also appeared before court for a pre-trial review.

In total, more than 40 people have been charged in connection with the incident.

For those who have entered not guilty pleas, the trial has been split into three due to the number of defendants.

The group of nine which appeared in court on Thursday is expected to be included in the first stage of the trial, and consisted of:

  • Jaydan Baston, 21, from Caerau, Cardiff

  • Zayne Farrugia, 25, from Caerau

  • McKenzie Danks, 22, from Caerau

  • Kieron Beccano, 37, from St Fagans, Cardiff

  • Lee Robinson, 36, from Cardiff

  • Luke Williams, 31, from Ely

  • Michaela Gonzales, 37, from Ely

  • Connor O'Sullivan, 26, from Caerau

  • Jordan Bratcher, 27, from Ely

They were released on bail until the trial at Newport Crown Court on 22 September.

The second and third trials are planned for 17 November this year and 6 February 2026 respectively.
