A man in his 60s has died after he was struck by a motorcyclist who was also killed in the collision.

The vehicle hit the man, and a woman in her 60s, at about 10:30 BST on Preston Road in Clayton-le-Woods on Thursday, Lancashire Police said.

Both the driver, believed to be a man in his 50s from Macclesfield, and the male pedestrian died at the scene, the force added.

The woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries but remains in a stable condition.

Anyone with any information about the incident, which took place on the Preston Road junction with Cloverfield, is asked to get in touch with police.

Sgt Paul McCurrie of the force's Roads Policing Team, said: "Our thoughts are with the woman receiving treatment, and the loved ones of both men who died.

"They are being supported by specially trained officers at this incredibly distressing time."
