'Reckless' seafront bin fires deliberately set
- Published
Multiple, deliberate bin fires set along a seaside promenade have been condemned as a "reckless act of anti-social behaviour".
Six wooden bins on Saltburn Bank are reported to have been kicked over and set alight overnight.
Cleveland Fire Brigade said it believes the blazes were set deliberately, adding the fires prevented them attending emergencies where "lives could have been at risk".
Police confirmed they are investigating and asked anyone with information to get in touch.
Officers said they thought the bins had been set alight at some point between 21:30 and 05:00 BST.
Fire crews, who were sent to the scene in the early hours, said in a post on social media that the fires had "ruined one of the most picturesque views in the North East".
