Police investigate complaint after teens arrested

A police force is reviewing a complaint after a video has emerged which shows an officer apparently kneeing a teen to bring them to the ground.

The video, first reported in KentOnline, external, appears to show an officer knee a young person in the midriff or groin area.

Kent Police attended following calls about the behaviour of a large group of young people - some possibly with weapons - in the Dane Park area of Margate on 5 May, the force said.

A spokesperson confirmed a complaint had since been received regarding one of three arrests and was currently being reviewed.

The video shows a group of young people in Park Road, with one officer pushing a young person against a wall.

A second teen in a grey hooded top then approaches a second officer, who appears to knee the teen in the in the midriff or groin area and brings them to the ground.

Police said a 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker, a 14-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and 15-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of breaching a dispersal order.

The force added: "A complaint has since been received regarding one of the arrests and this is currently being reviewed."

'Recurring anti-social behaviour'

Other teens in the video can be heard shouting "What are you doing?" and "You can't do that".

Kent Police said a dispersal order had been put in place giving officers additional powers to move on anyone causing nuisance, harassment or distress.

This came following several calls that groups of young people, some possibly in possession of weapons, were planning to meet in the Dane Park area.

On 3 May there had been a report of an assault involving a group of people in the park and "recurring anti-social behaviour", the force said.
