A dog had to be rescued from a cliff in "monsoon" conditions after chasing a ball over the edge, volunteers have said.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team said the dog got stuck on Wednesday after its owners decided to visit Surprise View in the Lake District "on a day of monsoon like conditions".

One of the owners also became stuck while trying to retrieve their pet, the team said.

The pair were rescued using ropes and both were uninjured.

A team spokesman said volunteers were joined by firefighters at the rescue overlooking Derwentwater at about 15:15 BST.

The entire operation took two hours and 14 minutes, he added.
