A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after another man died after being found unconscious in a house.

Avon and Somerset Police said officers were called to a home in Staple Hill, Bristol, at about 17:40 BST on Thursday, where they found a man in an unresponsive state.

He later died at the scene, and the death is being treated as "suspicious" pending a post-mortem.

While formal identification has not yet taken place, police said the man is believed to be aged in his 40s and his family have been informed.

The force said it had referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), due to prior police contact.

A man arrested in connection with the incident, also in his 40s, was initially arrested on suspicion of GBH, and subsequently on suspicion of murder.

The two men were known to each other, police said.

The man who was arrested at the address remains in custody, while the cause of death is yet to be established.

Police have encouraged anyone with information to get in touch and said there will be increased patrols in the area over the weekend.
