Partington's said planning permission is already in place to build holiday and leisure facilities on the site, which was recently bought by chief executives Rob Kearsley and Andrea Challis.

The recently amended planning application submitted to the council for Windy Harbour proposes a phased development over a number of years beginning with a lodge park and leisure facilities including swimming pools, a gym and a bar as well a restaurant.

'Bold investment'

Further proposals include a luxury spa and wellbeing centre, cycle and running tracks and nature walks.

Mr Kearsley said of the proposal: "This bold investment in a thrilling new leisure destination for the North West builds on our years of expertise in running successful holiday parks for all."

Ms Challis, added: "Every aspect of this inspiring new development is thoughtfully crafted to consider the needs of our visitors and their lifestyle and leisure aspirations whilst also providing our team with an outstanding destination they will be proud to be part of."

Mr Kearsley and Ms Challis, who are brother and sister, are the fourth generation of their family at the firm which is celebrating its 80th anniversary.

Partington's recently invested £1.5m into the new Walterz Entertainment Centre at its nearby Newton Hall Holiday Park site in Staining.
