Care home holds festival for residents

Residents have been treated to live music from a variety of bands

A Wiltshire care home has hosted its own mini festival for its residents.

The event ran from Friday until Sunday - the same dates as Glastonbury Festival - at Goodson Lodge in Trowbridge.

It follows the success of the care home's silent disco that went viral on TikTok in January.

Care home resident Maisie said: "It's been very good and the work that's gone into it is fantastic. [We've had] all these lovely things to eat and drink."

The festival featured an eclectic line-up of local bands and solo artists, covering a range of genres from rock to jazz, and samba to karaoke.

Headline performances included Ukulele Piddle, Sweet Silent Disco, Alpine Stompers Bavarian Band, Calne Silver Band, local drag queen Miss Luscious Lips Lucy, NJ dance group and guitarist James Hogg.

"Music is incredibly important for residents living with dementia," said Alex Damon, events manager at Goodson Lodge.

Mr Goodson said he wanted to create a special day for residents at the home

"It can help them express their feelings and ideas, and improve their wellbeing."

The festival offered a variety of activities and food for residents and their families.

Residents enjoyed activities such as circus skills, farm animals from Chloe Mobile Farm and face painting.

There was also ice cream, cake, coffee, gin vans and a barbecue.

“I wanted to create a fun and memorable experience for the residents, many of whom have fond memories of musical concerts and festivals in their youth," said Mr Goodson."
