A bicycle group has organised an evening bike ride to highlight the importance of being seen during the winter months.

The Guernsey Bicycle Group (GBG) has organised the event to coincide with Road Safety Week by charity Brake to raise awareness of riding at night.

The ride sets off from The Captain's Hotel, St Martins, at 18:00 GMT on Thursday.

Prizes will be given to the best lit bikes.

Phil Le Poidevin, GBG chairman, said: "As cycling continues to grow in popularity in Guernsey, it is essential for everyone to contribute to road safety...

"It is particularly important to exercise caution during the winter when visibility is reduced due to low sunlight and increased darkness.

"Cyclists must ensure they are visible to others, while motorists should keep a safe distance, passing cyclists with at least 1.5m (4.9ft) of clearance."
