Convict absconds from open prison

Police are appealing for help to find an prisoner who absconded from an open prison on Saturday.

Steven Stewart, 39, is serving a sentence for wounding with intent at HMP Leyhill, near Wotton-under-Edge in South Gloucestershire.

Avon and Somerset Police said he was last seen wearing a black baseball cap, dark-coloured jumper and jogging bottoms with white trainers and has links to Eastbourne & Brighton.

A spokesperson said anyone who sees him must call 999 immediately, adding: "Please don't approach him."

Stewart is described as white, about 5'10" tall and of medium build. He has short dark hair with names tattooed on his left arm and "England" on his right.

He also has tattoos on his hand.
