Pilgrim father celebrated in Droitwich Spa
- Published
A town in Worcestershire has held a special day to celebrate a local man who made history as one of the pilgrim fathers.
Edward Winslow, who was born in Droitwich Spa in 1595, was among the first English people to sail to America in the 17th Century.
He was remembered at the town's first ever Edward Winslow Day on Thursday, the same day the US celebrated Thanksgiving.
The festivities included the raising of the US flag outside the town council building.
Live music, food and exhibitions showcased the story of the Mayflower voyage.
The mayor of Droitwich, Alex Sinton, said it had been a hugely successful day.
"We are so very proud of our heritage," he said.
“I think it’ll grow from this – this is the first attempt, and it’s been great.”
