Man seriously injured in horse and cart crash

A man suffered serious injuries when his horse and carriage collided with a car in Leicestershire.

The 19-year-old driver was taken to hospital by East Midlands Ambulance Service following the crash near Tilton-on-the-Hill on Friday night.

His horse was treated by vets, said Leicestershire Police, which confirmed no other injuries were reported.

Detectives are calling on any witnesses to come forward.

They said the crash also involved a silver Kia Sportage, and happened at about 19:45 BST.

Det Con Madeleine Hayes, from the force's serious collision investigation unit, said: "A man remains in hospital in a serious condition.

"We are continuing to establish the full circumstances of the incident and what has happened."
