Five people were taken to hospital following the crash in Wymondham

A child has been airlifted to hospital in a life-threatening condition following a road collision.

The incident in Wattlefield Road, Wymondham, Norfolk, happened at about 17:50 BST on Wednesday and involved a black Mercedes AMG and a black Kia Ceed.

The driver of the Mercedes, a man in his 50s, was arrested on suspicion of drink and drug driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The child was taken by air ambulance to the Norfolk and University Hospital while the driver of the Kia – a woman in her 30s – and a second child were taken to the same hospital in a serious condition.

Norfolk Police said the woman and one of the children were later transferred to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge and the other child had been discharged.

The Mercedes driver and a woman in her 40s were also taken to the NNUH with serious injuries.

The road was closed until about 07:30 BST on Thursday.
