A serving police officer has appeared in court charged with sexual assault.

Det Sgt Mike Robinson, from Bedfordshire Police, was suspended from duties since the alleged incident on 22 March, when he was off duty, the force said.

At Luton Magistrates' Court last week he pleaded not guilty to two counts of sexual assault and one count of common assault.

He was bailed and is due to appear at Luton Crown Court on 9 September.
