Warning over arson attacks on wheelie bins

The yellow tags give advice on preventing arson attacks
- Published
Yellow tags are being placed on bins thought to be at risk of being set alight in the run up to Bonfire Night.
Humberside Fire and Rescue Service and Hull City Council are urging residents to take extra precautions to protect their waste from arson attacks.
The tags provide information on how to protect bins, as well as contact details for those with concerns about arson and antisocial behaviour.
People are being urged to store wheelie bins securely behind locked gates and only put them out on the morning of collection.
The council also warned against leaving bags and other waste around bins and not dumping unwanted items such as mattresses and furniture outside properties.
Councillor Charles Quinn, portfolio holder for environment, said: "We want everyone to enjoy Bonfire Night, but safety must come first.
"Sadly, this time of year brings an increased risk of theft and arson involving wheelie bins.
"Simple actions, like bringing your bin in promptly where possible, can make a big difference."
"By following these guidelines, residents can help ensure a safer and more enjoyable Bonfire Night for all."
