Five teenage boys have been arrested in connection with eight knife-point robberies in two neighbouring towns.

Bedfordshire Police said three youths were taken into custody on 4 November a day after two knife-related incidents in Luton.

While investigating the attacks, officers from the force's guns and gangs team found machetes and stolen property.

Two more teenagers, arrested in connection with six similar assaults in Dunstable, were also being questioned.

Supt Ian Taylor said: "These arrests are a clear demonstration of our commitment to tackling serious violence and protecting our communities.

"The use of weapons to intimidate and carry out robberies is deeply concerning, and we will continue to take robust action against those responsible.

"Our teams are working tirelessly through targeted operations, high visibility patrols and close partnership working to prevent further offences and keep people safe."

Bedfordshire Police also said it was continuing to carry out visible patrols and targeted operations to catch offenders carrying knives.
