A key road remains closed after a motor glider was forced to make an emergency landing while trying to touch down at a local airfield.

The two-seater light aircraft crashed on the A419 Stroud Road, near Aston Down airfield in Frampton Mansell, at about 16:45 BST on Tuesday.

Gloucestershire Police said there were two people on board, who were both taken to hospital.

A police spokesperson said officers were still in attendance at the scene on Wednesday, awaiting the recovery of the motor glider.

An AAIB spokesperson said it had been notified of the "light aircraft accident" on Tuesday and would be commencing an investigation.

A statement from the nearby Cotswold Gliding Club, where the aircraft has been trying to land, identified it as a Grob 109B two-seater motor glider.

"The two occupants, who are both qualified pilots, suffered some injuries and were taken by ambulance to hospital to be checked over," a spokesperson said.

"The A419 road past Aston Down airfield was closed overnight to permit removal of the aircraft."

The incident is currently under investigation by the Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) of the Department for Transport, the British Gliding Association and the local police, they added.
