Morning rush-hour motorists faced disruption on Wednesday after a crash followed by a vehicle fire forced the closure of the A27 near Polegate.

A car caught fire after a crash on Lewes Road, Newlands, near the Wilmington crossroads, just before 23:00 BST on Tuesday.

East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said they sent two appliances and put out a fire in one of the vehicles involved.

The road was closed between Drusillas roundabout and Polegate crossroads while police carried out an investigation, but reopened just after midday.
