A child has been seriously injured in a crash on the M6 during the early hours.

Emergency services said they found one car smoking on its side. A girl was outside the vehicle with serious injuries and was taken to hospital in Birmingham . A second young girl was treated for minor injuries and taken to hospital in Coventry.

Warwickshire Police said it happened at about 00:30 GMT between junctions 2 and 3, near Henley, on the northbound carriageway and involved a Black Range Rover Evoque and a Black Land Rover Discovery Sport.

The force is appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage of the incident, and said it had not made any arrests.
