A dog has shown his appreciation to firefighters with lots of friendly licks after they freed him from a car ramp.

Dave's owners called Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service after he became stuck in the device in Rowland's Castle, near Havant, on Tuesday.

Upon finding the Staffordshire Bull Terrier and Labrador-cross was struggling to breathe, the crew calmed the canine by feeding him jam.

They then used spreading tools, normally seen at road traffic incidents, to expand the metal bracket so he could escape.
