Three children have been using their free time to clean the streets and parks in Wolverhampton.

Lennon, 14, Jack, 13, and Freya, nine, have been praised by Wolverhampton City Council for collecting litter at popular areas, including Prouds Lane Playing Fields in Bilston, Bentley Bridge, Ashmore Park and Tettenhall Wood.

The trio said they planned to step up their efforts as summer approaches.

It comes following the start of the Great British Spring Clean campaign with more volunteers being urged to join in.

Councillor Craig Collingswood said: “This year’s national campaign has the theme ‘the environment belongs to everyone’ and the efforts of these three young people is a true reflection of that message.

“Their community spirit is to be commended and we hope that even more people will be inspired and get involved in the Great British Spring Clean."
